Page Builder Creative Exercise
In this task you will build a single page portfolio website for a famous person based on their Wikipedia info.
You will use a drag-and-drop page constructor for WordPress called Page Builder. It should give you access to 1000s of images to choose from.
Be as creative as you want in the time and feel free to complete this task however you want – provided there’s a page about someone at the end.
First choose the person… (click one to open the wikipedia page for them in a new tab)
- Pete Rock – American producer/rapper
- Olga Tokarczuk – Polish novelist
- Asghar Farhadi – Iranian filmaker
- Graça Machel – Mozambican politician/humanitarian
- Trisha Zorn – American paralympic swimmer
Then…
- Open your page with the button below…
- Click ‘Customize’ towards the top left,
- Click ‘builder’ lower down on the left
- Now you are in Builder mode. The page you build on screen left is previewed on the right.
Things to note…
Remember to save regularly (button top left).
- You assemble your page with sections, rows, columns and blocks. Blocks can include images, headings, and interactive elements like tabs and accordions.
- Copy and paste text from Wikipedia into the page layout you build.
- You can chose from thousands of royalty-free images you will find on an image library in the tool called Unsplash.
- To use Unsplash, when you add an image block, rather than clicking ‘upload’, click ‘Unsplash’ then search the Unsplash dbse. More info in the docs if you get stuck.
- If you’re stuck on something or can’t figure it out – move on and try something different. There are many many ways to complete this exercise.
- Just remember to save and add your name somewhere on the page. Good luck.
